Design Inspiration from Floor to Ceiling® For Your New Bath

Think Furniture
Furniture for the bath is a white hot trend. No longer limited to those with unlimited means, now it is possible for anyone to create a bathroom retreat that is less utilitarian and more luxurious than ever.  The time worn vanity concept of kitchen cabinets at a somewhat lower height has given way to vanities that look more like the bedroom dresser, with legs, curves, inserts, onlays and other accoutrements that further support the furniture concept.  For the aficionado of more contemporary design, dispense with the frills entirely (even the legs) and attaching the vanity to wall studs, install lighting below and let the vanity appear to float. Brushed steel and oil rubbed bronze are the biggest winners in faucetry and decorative hardware.

Pedestal sinks have grown in popularity for smaller baths and powder rooms, but the biggest news in master bath lavs is vessels; sinks that are usually bowl shaped, rising from the counter.  Vessels are available in every material under the sun.  Choose from pottery, acrylic, glass, stainless steel, copper, wood and ceramic or china adorned with hand painted designs.

Countertops have followed the furniture trend in baths with fluted edges in stone or thick, gleaming clear glass.  Even shower enclosures and tubs are embellished with curves.

Tubs and fixtures are resplendent with gracious curves inside and out and features like built-in pillows for relaxing comfort while you enjoy a soak or a stimulating whirlpool massage. Clean zen designs in tubs are built-in to natural or stained wooden surrounds that invoke the feeling of a calming Japanese spa with a decidedly contemporary feel.

Whatever your design taste, the byword for baths is luxury.

Think Retreat
New bathrooms are larger than ever before, with owners borrowing space from other rooms when necessary to create a private retreat.  Along with a more furniture look, tub, shower, lav and stool, baths are boasting chaise lounges or easy chairs with soft, inviting cushions, electronic entertainment centers, even juice bars outfitted with small refrigerators and sometimes a microwave.  Whatever your favorite indulgences, consider incorporating them into your private bath retreat!  Your Floor To Ceiling® designer will show you how.

Think Color
Those same whole-house color trends to relaxing blue-greens and rich earthy tones follow right into the bath.  Floors and wall surrounds may be sleek polished tiles or natural looking stone.  White remains the best choice for fixtures, with lots of mirror and polished glass, with a chandelier perhaps!   Plenty of task and ambient lighting adds to the gleaming effect. Accent the feel of your personal spa with pillows, candles and other accessories.  Or soften the tone with the antique look of vintage decorative hardware and faucetry in rusted or oiled rubbed bronze. Whether you choose a soothing monochromatic scheme or vibrant, invigorating hues, color is an essential element of the relaxing effect you want to experience in your new bath.

Your Floor To Ceiling® bath design specialist will help you create a color palette that suits you personal style and complements the scheme of your home.

Think Function
Do you imagine your new bath as an at-home spa?  Consider a soaking or bubble function on your jetted tub.  Add several independently controlled fonts to your jetted shower.  Make room for your treadmill or exercise bike and a CD player. Excellent lighting, plenty of mirrors and clean, functional lines are a must. Opt for individual grooming areas for each user with plenty of storage for towels and personal care products. And, don’t forget the scales!

Maybe a relaxing, more personal retreat is your style.  Indulge in a bubble tub for two with built-in pillows and touchpad controls.  Provide plenty of storage for towels and personal care items to be neatly tucked away.  Create a small private room or surround for the stool. Add comfortable chairs, a TV and/or sound system. Add a bowl of fresh flowers, some fragrant candles and voila! – you are breathing easier already…

Your Floor To Ceiling® bath design specialist will show you the many decorative and functional  features available and help you make selections that will create the new bath you’ve dreamed of.
